Following the Letter of Award in March 2008 for the provision of security at Juba International Airport in Juba, Southern Sudan, Westminster’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Peter Fowler, has attended a meeting and signed formal contracts at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Transport and Roads, Government of Southern Sudan in Juba itself.
The contract valued at $4.7 million will allow for a significant upgrade of security at the airport including perimeter fencing and sophisticated detection system, airport surveillance and a range of scanning equipment for the screening of both passengers and baggage.
Works will commence on site within a few weeks and are expected to be completed within 12 months. Once completed it is anticipated that air traffic to Juba, the Capital of the South will significantly increase and fares reduce accordingly.
Commenting after the signing of contracts Peter Fowler said:
"I am delighted to be here in Juba and to be able to conclude this important new contract and to be able to assist the Government of Southern Sudan in its reconstruction plans.
I can see quite a dramatic change to the city since my last visit in October 2007 and my congratulations must go to the Ministry of Transport and Roads for the impressive efforts made so far in rebuilding the city after so many years of turmoil."
